Serving Cowpens
since 1928

On April 7th, 1928 a fire sparked by a defective stove flue in a home spread to several other homes in the town. This event led to the establishment of the Cowpens Fire Department in July of 1928. The first apparatus was built at this time, a 1928 Howe with two 40 gallon chemical tanks. The first fire department was also built in a municipal building containing City Hall and the Police Department. It is documented on 1929 Sanborn Insurance maps of Cowpens. The Cowpens Fire Department is located in Upstate South Carolina in Spartanburg County. The Department’s namesake is the Town of Cowpens, named from the famed revolutionary war battle which was fought nearby and featured in the movie, “The Patriot.” The department carries on the rich history of the area and is represented by the “Minuteman” mascot.
